Geo-political and Economic Facts.
Germany, officially the Federal Republic of Germany is a country in Central and Western Europe, bordering Poland, Austria, Switzerland, France and Belgium. Germany is a large country covering an area of 357,386 square kilometers, constituting 16 states and having a population of 83 million, the largest in the European Union. Germany largely serves as a decentralized country with its capital Berlin, while Frankfurt functions as the financial capital of the country. Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, Leipzig are the other major cities in Germany. It has a strong economy and is currently the world’s fourth-largest economy in the world by nominal GDP.
Demographics
The population of Germany as of 2019 is 83,517,045 which makes it the world’s
17th most populous country in the world. Germany’s population is equivalent to 1.08% of the total world population and the median age in Germany is 45.9 years.

Germany’s population pyramid in 1980 shows a constrictive trend. There is a large difference in the sex ratio for people above age 64, this difference is due to both world wars in which a considerable amount of men died. But this difference is seen to normalize further down the pyramid.

The population pyramid for 2000 also shows a constrictive shape which means that there is lower birth rates and the most number of people are in the age group 35 to 39. The population of Germany during 2000 was 81.8 million.

The population pyramid of Germany hasn’t changed much since 2000 and still has a constrictive shape. The population declined by around 1.5 million and the greatest number of Germans are in the age group 50 to 54, which means the population is slowly ageing. By 2050, the population is expected to go down to 74.5 million.
